Alan T.N Tita, MD Ph.D FACOG

Dr. Tita is Professor & Vice Chairman in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Director of the Center for Women’s Reproductive Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). A native of Cameroon, he obtained his MD degree from the University of Yaounde 1 (Cameroon) and received specialized training in Medicine and Public Health in the UK (University of Leeds) and US (University of Texas Houston, Baylor College of Medicine and UAB). He practices Maternal-Fetal Medicine (care of high-risk pregnancies) and conducts research to improve the health and survival of mothers and their infants globally.
Dr. Tita co-directs the Cameroon Health Initiative (CHI) at UAB, a multi-disciplinary endeavor to improve health care in Cameroon through research, educational and clinical care partnerships with major health care service providers and institutions in Cameroon. Ongoing projects include prevention of infection during labor, prevention of malaria in HIV+ pregnant women and Hepatitis B vaccination at birth (initiative sponsored by the Cameroon diaspora in Birmingham). Dr. Tita’s service includes roles as a technical consultant for the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, US Centers for Diseases Control, the Green Journal (Obstetrics and Gynecology) and the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
